We made it home

We made it home – albeit a few hours late. Our last flight from Toronto to Indy was delayed because they had to change a tire. I never thought I would be so glad to see Indianapolis.
The house largely survived – thanks to our cat minder who turned the taps to trickle so that the pipes would not burst. I did not know that this had to be done – I have a lot to learn about winters in the mid west.
But we did have one leak that has damaged the ceiling and walls in the back of the house. I can’t see where this is coming from so will ask the guy who renovated it – he knows the house better than anyone else.
Our back lane has not been plowed so is a complete shambles and is covered with ice and piles of snow. We would not have been able to get out of the garage a few days ago but were able to manage it today – with some difficulty.
The cats were very pleased to see us and have been keeping us in sight at all times. Monika in particular is delighted that we have turned the gas fires back on.
Cate got up early this morning and cleared the paths. The temperature now is above zero - which after the last few weeks qualifies as a heat wave. The snow should be gone within the next few days and we will be ready for the next lot.
The Colts are in the playoffs and tonite play the Patriots to get into the final four. The town is painted blue and white.

  3. Sorry, can't get behind the Colts, they are on my shit list. Sorry, I forgot to tell you about the trickle but you did not need it when you left, I did wonder though but did not want to mention it while you were galavanting about Canada. Yes, the thought of you pining for Indy is hilarious.

  4. Trickles + cats = danger that something might get bumped into a plughole, resulting in flooding. The best solution, Badger, n’est-ce pas, is to refrain from abandoning your precious house in the middle of winter. Besides, what do you want to see elsewhere, hundreds of miles away from from your home ? Snow? Ice ? Why don’t you simply curl up in front of a log fire, with a good book ?

  7. esb: In is indeed good to be back. WE may stay here for a while before we start any new adventures.

fmcgmccllc: Well you should be pleased with the weekend result. We are lucky that the cat minder knew about the trickle thing - but I guess most people do.

William: You are right. WE had no problems in Europe but it seems we cannot travel in North America in winter. But we do love the snow which is why we go to such far flung and cold places.

nzm: I had noticed recently that I am using a combination of American and English spelling - plus I am capitalizing some nouns as required in German. So my blogs are a language shambles.

Welcome to my world, where critical and subconscious thought all too often talk different languages. And the fingers that do the typing listen to yet another one! ;-)
