We made it home – albeit a few hours late. Our last flight from Toronto to Indy was delayed because they had to change a tire. I never thought I would be so glad to see Indianapolis.
The house largely survived – thanks to our cat minder who turned the taps to trickle so that the pipes would not burst. I did not know that this had to be done – I have a lot to learn about winters in the mid west.
But we did have one leak that has damaged the ceiling and walls in the back of the house. I can’t see where this is coming from so will ask the guy who renovated it – he knows the house better than anyone else.
Our back lane has not been plowed so is a complete shambles and is covered with ice and piles of snow. We would not have been able to get out of the garage a few days ago but were able to manage it today – with some difficulty.
The cats were very pleased to see us and have been keeping us in sight at all times. Monika in particular is delighted that we have turned the gas fires back on.
Cate got up early this morning and cleared the paths. The temperature now is above zero - which after the last few weeks qualifies as a heat wave. The snow should be gone within the next few days and we will be ready for the next lot.
The Colts are in the playoffs and tonite play the Patriots to get into the final four. The town is painted blue and white.
