So a couple of weeks ago Cate said ‘I have
to go to London for a conference – why don’t you come with me?’
Oh Cool! I thought – I love London. I have
been going there since 1976 and it never ceases to fascinate me.
And then she said ‘we can spend a few days
there – I am sure there are lots of things we have not seen’.
Then I understood.
Cate means – there are lots of shops I have
not visited (although I dispute that).
This is a shopping expedition and I know
exactly what it will be like.
It will be like when Cate says ‘Would you
like to have lunch at Café Central?’
And I say sure what a good idea and when we
are on our way to Café Central she says ‘Oh I just have to pop into Peek and
Cloppenburg for a moment’
And I realize – not for the first time in
my life – that I have been deluded. We
are actually on a shopping trip.
So this is what London will be about – and
I now exactly where we are going – and I even know exactly where the Sad
Bastards seats are in the shops I know we will visit.
Although this time we are not staying at
the Ritz and have opted for places much more economical.
But I may let my head go and buy some
T-Shirts in Banana Republic. Pure decadence!
I am an anarchist at heart.
Ah, London in the autumn. I was just reading about the Scottish desire for independence this morning.
ReplyDeleteLOL - Try to enjoy it anyway !
ReplyDeleteMe
Is there a reason why you couldn't wait in a pub instead in the Sad Bastard seats?
ReplyDeleteLOL i was thinking the same thing as SK! : )
ReplyDeleteI agree with SK Waller, and they should go ahead and name a pub Sad B@$+@rd$.
ReplyDeleteWell you know my thoughts here, I married pay, tote and carry.
ReplyDeleteesb: I am not sure they real do - but they want to have a vote.
ReplyDeleteMe: I will do my best
SK Waller: Yes - I have to be there (No I am not sure why)
CarrieMarie: See above
esb:If only there was one
fmcgmccllc: I guess I can't complain too much. I am well paid for my schlepping
Any trip is a shopping trip when you are with women - you should know that
ReplyDeleteNot at the Ritz? Great, more money for black T-shirts! ;-)
ReplyDeleteI love London and only wish the currency exchange rate was a little more in my favor.
ReplyDeleteYou're a good man, Badger. I have a strong aversion to shopping and would gladly join you at the pubs.
The one person I know from London is back home in Washington for a few days so it would be a good idea for you to go there.
ReplyDeleteGlen: Too True
ReplyDeleteMerisi: Or for winter coats for girls
Smedette: Would your husband shop with Cate while we drank?
esb: I think Cate will be there in a week or so - she can call in.
