I have lost my spark

Discerning readers will have noticed that there has been something wrong with my blog for some time. Those readers that are still left. Most have wisely moved on and my readership is at its lowest level ever.

I have lost my spark.

I lost my spark when Jim died and I have not been functioning properly blog-wise ever since. I realized this a few weeks ago when I discovered that writing blogs was no longer fun. It had become a chore – and a difficult chore at that.

Jim was a really good friend and I miss him terribly.

So rather than blunder on and destroy the little readership I have left I will stop blogging until I find myself again. This may happen on home leave in Australia in a few weeks. Perhaps I need a good dose of family and Australiana.

I saw a gigantic flock of wonderful birds yesterday in Djurgården in Stockholm and my immediate reaction was to take a photo for Maalie so he could tell me what they were. I had to find out on my own. They are Barnacle Geese and are quite gorgeous.

I may post some photos on the blog every now and then – but probably not many words.

  1. It's good to take a blog break from time-to-time. Not to worry, I'll be here when you come back. Take care of yourself.

(Just have to add that the word verification for this comment is "duckha").

  2. Argh - just when I find you!

Still, I realise the chores of blogging, having been an infrequent contributor to my own in recent times!

I read an earlier post of yours about flying Emirates and the Dubai stop-over part. If your transit time on the ground at DXB is more than 8 hours, (i.e. Emirates do not have flights that connect within 8 hours), the airline will put you up in a hotel.

However, we've found that, by the time you get out of the terminal; find the shuttle; close your eyes at the idiotic driving in Dubai and perhaps emit a few screams of terror as well; and then do it all in reverse to get back to the airport, it's simply not worth it.

We now put our feet up in the internal Dubai International Hotel located within the terminal. It couldn't be easier.

A hotel rep meets you as you get off the plane, and escorts you through security to the hotel reception. We carry a change of clothes with us, have a shower, a nap in a comfortable bed, and then it's only a 10-15 minute walk to the departure gate when it comes time to catch our next flight. Hassle free.

Here's hoping that you recover your blogging mojo.

    cheers
    Michele

  3. I hope you find that spark soon because we'll miss you. Please indulge yourself greatly while you're back in Oz. I prescribe plenty of vegemite on toast, lots of frosty beer and huge slices of pav (not necessarily together mind). Come back soon.

  4. Yes, have a rest.
There's no point if it's no fun.
Stare at the sky and look at the grass and the trees and soon you'll feel better.

  5. Ah, you will be missed, but I understand breaks away from blogs and heart break itself. The year 2009 was difficult for me for a wide variety of reasons, and my son won't be back home for a couple more years, at least he is on the downhill slope of his 4 years and he is in Australia at the moment, but it isn't for fun. But I kept writing through 2009, through the death of my father, through my son, through job loss, and felt relief when 2010 finally arrived. I was glad I had a good dog and a wife to see me through the times, as my lawyer turned out to be an utter failure.

  6. We'll miss you. I always like seeing a new post from you pop up on the blogs I follow list. Hope you feel better after your break - but grief is a long process, different for everyone. If you find a spark supplier, let me know!

  7. Maalie was such a special friend, we'll never stop missing him.
I hope he'll swoop down from his perch somewhere and inspire you to come back. Will miss your daily missives. Very much so!

  8. We will miss you! As others have said, though, it's not worth it if it's not bringing you happiness, so enjoy a much needed break.

If only everything in life was as reliable.

keep the faith - or not - depending on how you look at it

  10. Damn, all the goods are falling by the wayside.

I may have to blog about this as I really have nothing to say right now myself.

Have fun on your vacation and take lots of pictures.
