You cannot make this stuff up

It snowed a lot on the weekend and we are still buried under mountains of it. For a change today we are having freezing rain which turns the roads and everything else to ice.

Yesterday I went shopping and got the car bogged in snow in the back lane when I was coming home. I had to dig myself out – and use lots of kitty litter – to get myself into the garage.

It is so cold outside the cats are no longer interested in trying to escape.

We seem to specialize in this state in gigantic crashes on the Interstates. The biggest one I have seen involved 47 cars and trucks and took hours and hours to untangle. The speed at which people travel on the Interstates here is scary – and they do not seem to slow down in the snow and the sleet.

However – safely ensconced in  a warm house I am busy doing important things like painting shelves and watching golf.

I have also taking on the cleaning of Wishard Mansion. We used to have a bunch of people who came once a fortnight and cleaned the floors and the seven bathrooms. They did not do a very good job and charged a lot of money so I have dispensed with their services and taken on the task myself – with the help of Robbie the iRobot.

This gives me the opportunity to practice my Spanish grammar while I am mopping and dusting.

Cate has been looking at dogs and has ruled out small dogs.  For a brief period she had settled on a Beagle but these are apparently impossible to house train – and eat everything in sight including shoes, handbags and furniture.

I have stopped my fruitless protesting and am now planning how to cope with the coming Catastrophe.

It seems to me that  a Labrador is inevitable and a man is coming to day to quote for putting a fence around our back garden.

My idjit of the week was going to be Donald Trump who is still not sure that President Obama was born in the USA.

Then I had to switch to Rupert Murdoch who was flying over ice in the North Atlantic and tweeted ‘global warming’.

However he was blown out of the water by Senator Inhofe – Chair of the Environment and Public Works Committee – who brought a snowball into the Senate to demonstrate that global warming is not true.

  1. Do you know that you cannot leave a dog outside during the winter months, especially in this weather? Labradors are great dogs, but as puppies, they're a handful. I still regret getting Nigel three years ago, as much as I love him. In retrospect, I realize I should have stuck with my cats. I imagine you indoors in the winter, playing referee. I can tell you first-hand about that nightmare. Everyone gets cabin fever and there's not a moment's peace. It's like having kids. Everything is harder; writing? Ha! A quiet glass of wine? Rare. People coming over? The FedEx guy? The letter carrier? Repair people? Naps? Sleeping in on weekends? I've had dogs all my life and to be fair, I must admit that if our yard was fenced and I could install a pet door, things might not be so bad, but really, If I had to do it again, I'd either get a dog that's small enough to be afraid of the cats, or else I'd get an older rescue dog, preferably female. But as I said, if I had it to do again, I wouldn't. Sorry to sound like a spoilsport, but a dog changes everything.

  2. I think you should consider a French Bulldog.

  3. Licky dogs... Not welcome to a country girl
Wet dog smell... Not so good
Dog hairs on everything... Probably no worse than cats
    Barking dog... Annoying
Whining or howling dog... Worse still
Destructive dog... More than a nuisance
Dog and cat fights... Stop before the death, usually, but lead to extra vet bills... And possibly doctor's!
Mmm... Guess who's not getting a puppy? Or any dog for that matter, despite the many good points - companionship and exercise being two.

  4. We always had labradors when we had decent-sized gardens -they are lovely dogs but do need space and regular exercise. Now we have Manu the Jack Russell, who doesn't know he's a small dog. He sheds hair non-stop, and consequently is allowed in the sunroom, but not the rest of the house.

I googled 'Inhofe', and this was the first thing to come up: Sen. Inhofe's Embarrassing Snowball Stunt Is Celebrated On Fox News

  8. SK Waller: I know all that. I have told it all to Cate. Deaf ears. I anticipate my life and that of the cats to be ruined.

Heather: They look too much like James Inhofe.

Annie: Yes i know, I know!

Alexia: I am planning a series of dog doors - with smaller cat doors.

Lenny: Thanks but I will pass up the opportunity on this occasion. I still have the scar from the last encounter.

Keegan88: Well you may well be right - but I shall never see one here.

esb: Hmm... I will see if it was rejected somehow. Maybe Mr Google did not like it.

    1. I just noticed that another comment that I put on Rob Z Tobor's blog disappeared as well this morning and I know he would not have erased it. Bizarre ness mess. I wonder if it had anything to do with Android tablet I was using instead of my iPad.

  10. Miniature Schnauzers are great dogs. Not too large, not too small, obedient, loyal, protective, and have few health issues. Lynette is a vet's daughter and she grew up with them, and says that the they are wonderful, especially if obedience trained.

  11. SK Waller: I thinks Cate actually wants a small horse.

esb: Must be - no sign of it at my end.
