Distractions this week

Friedhof der Namenlosen

So it has stopped snowing and the terrace is clear. Sissi is a little disappointed about this but I have told her we may get a bit more on Tuesday – if and we do I am guessing that may be it for the year.

I was hoping the snow would hang about until today  because Merisi and I wanted to go to the Friedhof Der Namenlosen – which always looks good under snow

I watched the final of the Cricket One Day Women’s World Cup yesterday – which Australia won.

They have some sensational cricket players in the Australia team – and all of them bat and bowl better than I ever did.

I would be worried about being bored this week but I do in fact have lots to do and can let myself be distracted by the World Gold Match play Championship which starts on Wednesday.

Both the cats like watching golf so I will have plenty of company – and I might even light the fire.

Still snowing

Still snowing and – apart from doing a few chores – I have not been outside to do anything of consequence.

We are in grave danger of running out of wood because the apartment has been so cold - so I have started to ration it. The cats and I huddle under blankets at night when we are watching TV and they sleep on top of me when I go to bed.

I only light the fire when Cate is here – which is not too often at the moment.

I got her latest travel program from Rozalin to day and – starting on Sunday - she is going to Kiev, Johannesburg, Dubai, Johannesburg again, Brazil, and the Middle East.

She does come home for most weekends so we do get the chance to catch up.

And she fortunately will be here when we go to Burgundy in April with the Hendersons.

I saw Herr Katzenjammer yesterday morning as he was digging his car out from under a mountain of snow in Beatrixgasse. He has one of those SUV things so it will not fit into our garage.

It made me realize how lucky I am to have a parking spot in weather such as this.

It is of course hell for our building supervisor – Frau Sulejmanovic – who spends endless hours with a mop trying to keep the floors free from snow and ice.

Up to our ears again

We are up to our ears in snow again today. The cats are not nearly as interested as they have been in the past and I think Sissi in particular is beginning to understand that snow is just wet white stuff that sticks to your paws.

As soon as we get some decent light I shall leap across to Stadtpark to take some pictures – at the moment it is just too dark. But Merisi tells me that she has actually been in Stadtpark today photographing MY Ducks.

Cate has gone to Qatar where there is definitely no snow – although in a week or so she is off to the Ukraine – I am not sure what city -  so will have more snow there than she will ever need.

I would love to go to the Ukraine but it is just so damn difficult to get a visa to visit these countries – and I just never understand why they make it so hard.

Billy is back – briefly. He has an electrical problem so will need another quick visit to the workshop. I had to take him out today and was extra careful because Rozalin gets so disappointed with me when I scratch him – which is inevitable given the nature of his accommodation.

I am of course fascinated by the resignation of the Pope. He says he is too old feeble to do his job. I Could make many comments about this but will maintain  a respectful silence. With some difficulty.
