Day three

Kezza took the early shift while Badger slept and lazed about. In the afternoon grandad took the kids swimming in the big pool and even had a splash himself.

Then we set off for our final day and started off in the Adventure park. It is a bit of a blur because it was very hot and there were millions of people but we did walk on ropey things and went on the Ferris wheel - mum chickened out. We saw the parade - again and had hotdogs. The hotdogs were really too small to have been separated from their mothers but still cost $6.79. That is a very precise price for a hotdog but they probably have to extra for dwarf hotdogs and buns. The Nathan's hotdogs I have home are much better - and bigger.

My favourite was the milkshake I bought for $4.69. For an extra $5 I could have had commemorative plastic Disneyland cup (value 6 cents).

We lurched over to Disneyland and I went on the teacups again - third time - and 'it's a small world' - second time. We saw the fireworks and after this Gretel disappointed us all by saying she was not tired - so we all stayed another hour.

For some reason the line for Alice in Wonderland was always enormous so we did not get to see it. Of course we could have gone back for a fourth day. Or - more desirably - I could have drowned myself in the pool.

Today we are being picked up by a limo so that Kezza can see the sights of LA. Badger will have a nice rest then a swim and then a long sleep.

Tomorrow it is San Francisco.

Day two

Because we have a three day pass (shriek) Kezza was able to get in early before the seething hordes arrived. She was there with Hansel and Gretel at 6.45 am. I was not - I was allowed to sleep in and recover from day one.

I had a leisurely morning and prepared myself for the evening session. This involved listening to my iPod to try to get 'it's a small world' out of head. In the afternoon we went to the water park at the hotel and then to the big pool. We had lunch at Mimi's or some other place just like it. The children's meals include pancakes, mac and cheese and of course fries. It is the same as the breakfast menu. The Americans invented cornflakes but there is no sign of them here.

I am now suffering badly from coffee withdrawal symptoms and have started drinking the bottled Starbucks frappucinos from our little hotel shop. Yesterday I even had a cup of sludge from a big pot. There is a Starbucks at Disneyland but you would need a horse and a cattle prod to get near it.

The evening session was just like the day session but cooler. I did all the rides and have now been on the teacups twice. We saw the parade with Mickey and Minnie and Donald. I have not seen Huey, Dewey or Louie or even Scrooge McDuck. There is an extraordinary number of fairies and princesses. I am sure these are all pretty but it is hard to tell with the clobber and plastic hair they wear.

Gretel pegged out at about 9 pm so I took her back to the hotel. Kezza and Hanzel stayed for the fireworks and more rides. Today (day three) Kezza and the kids have gone for the morning session. I am rostered on for the evening. I think we have to do 'it's a smal world' again so I am going to need professional help to get the tune out of my brain.

Day one

Well I survived the first day - just.

It is apparently Spring Break here which means that most American school children are here with us. I have never seen so many people in the one spot at the same time. You have to line up to do everything including walking along the street.

It is also very hot - much too hot for grandfathers.

But the important thing is that the children - Hansel and Gretel - are having lots of fun. So is their mother Kezza who had waited all her life to go on the 'it's a small world ride' which I also enjoyed immensely. I enjoy any ride where I can sit down and float on a boat thru a cool tunnel. It may be some time before I get the song out of my head.

There are enormous lines for most rides and we spent a lot of time lining up. Some lines we could not face - there was a 70 minute wait for the boat that plummets down the waterfall. I timed this ride - it takes 3 seconds to fall down the waterfall. That's about 23 minutes wait for every second.

In between rides and waiting Disneyland has thought of many excellent ways you can spend your time - and money. You can for example pay $4.25 for 10 cents worth of popcorn. Or there are about 20,000 merchandise stores where you buy 500 different types of mouse ears.

Speaking of which - Mickey was nowhere to be seen. We saw his house but there was a sign saying he was off doing something and was not available. Not available? WTF was he doing that is more important than being at Disneyland? Is there only one Mickey? Anyway we lined up for a picture with Minnie.

I went on all the rides except one. This was called the slimy slug or something like that. I sat this out because it was the end of the day and I was knackered. I did go on one scary ride which Kezza refused to go on. It was not my wish to do this but Hansel was too young to go on his own. I did not enjoy it a bit.

Today Kezza has taken the kids to the early session. She will come home and we will all go later today.

I am sitting in the iHop having bacon and eggs over easy with has browns.

I read the book about Steve Jobs. I didn't see anything about the iHop.
